I had way too much fun designing this one! When @crkt_knives gave me the opportunity to work with the @ken_onion Field Strip mechanism I immediately started thinking about how I would apply it. Ken did a killer job of designing models that fit the concept, (Of course) hunting, outdoor, etc so I decided to go in a slightly different direction⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ At the time I started working on this I was listening to a bunch of Sci Fi audio books in the shop and decided that I would work around that thought process. The basic Idea was that this would be a knife used on a long range reconnaissance mission, carried by the maintenance crew. I wanted something small but robust with a neutral handle shape to fit a broad range of hands and multiple opening methods. The blade shape needed to be suited to rough use like scraping gaskets or weird alien goo as well as fine work like cutting a pattern to make a replacement part on the fly and just general knife’y stuff. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ Where I decided Field Strip came in was the fact that the environment the crew was working in was super corrosive (space goo yuck) and all of their tools needed to be able to be broken down and cleaned multiple times a day without the use of additional tools to save on the added weight and space. Field Strip win!⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ It also just makes a pretty sweet little Edc… I know I’m a Knerd 🤓 🔪 ⠀ Fun Easter egg on this one. There are 3 design features each with 3 elements. ⠀ Link in bio if you want to see the specs.
