Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a studio assistant (a right-hand man or woman) who is eager to learn and grow with our small company.
This is a part-time position (16-30 hours/week) with the potential for full-time employment in the future. Pay is hourly and will be based on experience.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, good-humored team player who can adapt to our ever-changing workflow and help us with numerous projects around the shop and office. Interest in knives is preferred, but a background in knifemaking is not necessary.
Day-to-day tasks may include:
- Manual fabrication: using a bandsaw, drill press, or belt grinder
- Assisting with CNC operations: preparing coupons, changing parts, changing coolant, etc.
- Finishing small parts: sandblasting, polishing, tumbling, anodizing, etc.
- Shop projects: building workbenches and shelves, moving machinery, painting, etc.
- Shipping: pulling inventory, thoughtfully preparing packages, making Post Office drop-offs
The ideal studio assistant:
- Comfortable working with and around machinery, hand tools, and power tools
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to do repetitive tasks with focus and efficiency
- An effective communicator with good problem-solving skills
- Maintains cleanliness of personal and shared workspace
- Organized and exhibits a high level of attention to detail
- Has a positive and energetic presence
- Able to work in a workshop environment (exposure to noise, coolants, abrasives, heat, cold, and automated machinery)
- Chips in and understands that “If you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean!”
- Must be able to lift 5olbs
- Must have own transportation
Bonus skills:
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must have own transportation
- We’re a young family and often have our baby in the shop with us. Must be comfortable around kids.
